Inspiration Board -1

Posted By niecylunn ~ Dec 2, 2009 2:06PM

So you know as soon as I'm contacted about a wedding, my thoughts immediately start running. I'm super excited to meet the couple and start going over their vision.  Since we haven't had our initial meeting, I started looking for inspiration boards online, and once we have our initial meeting, I'll create my own personalized one for the couple.

I love this description: Brown is the color of stability, hearth, home, the outdoors, comfort, endurance, reliability, and approachability. It is also the color of calm, boldness, depth, simplicity, steadfastness, friendliness, dependability, richness and tradition. It is the color of our earth and is associated with all things natural or organic. Brown conveys a feeling of wholesomness, and provides a connection with the earth and gives a sense of orderliness. Brown is a Fall foliage color and is expressive of Thanksgiving. Brown is a natural, down-to-earth, warm and unifying neutral color.

A few things I like from this inspiration board:

1. The candle votives. I love bringing candlelight into the atmosphere whenever possible.

2. I am a huge fan of the fuschia and purple flowers. I like to think of ways to bring in colors that will pop, even in subtle ways. You don't want to your wedding to be bland by repeating the same color patterns over and over again. Think of ways to add more color.

3. Simplicity. This entire inspiration board features simple elements, but are all very nice.

New Wedding Booked: September 10, 2010

Posted By niecylunn ~ Dec 1, 2009 5:13AM

I've been silent on here for awhile....what can I say....I've had a lot going on!  I'm excited to have a reason to start updating again.  I was contacted yesterday to plan a wedding for a long-time family friend in beautiful Ruidoso, New Mexico.  We are setting up our first appointment so I can get an understanding of the couple's vision, budget and timeline.  Then I'll start to pull together their spec board.

The bride did tell me she wants "Tiffany" blue, brown & silver.  I immediately thought to myself - "you can't have a Tiffany blue wedding without having Tiffany blue boxes".  I love these boxes above...and they will be easy to DIY!  You know I'm all about the DIY bride!

Taylor Wedding - June 27, 2009

Posted By niecylunn ~ Aug 23, 2009 8:56AM

I had the honor of planning my only first cousin's wedding this past June.  The wedding was in Rio Rancho, NM, so planning from 2,000 miles away in Maryland was a bit of a challenge, but well worth it.  The wedding was absolutely gorgeous and the bride and groom did a great job taking my direction and having everything in place when I arrived.  I love you guys.  God bless your marriage.

Not All Reality TV is Real

'BRIDEZILLAS' LANDS BRIDE IN JAIL tBy MAXINE SHEN Karee violated probation on show. August 6, 2009 Posted: 2:13 am August 6, 2009 NOT all bad "Bridezillas" be havior goes unpunished, it seems. Karee Gibson Hart's out-of-control actions, as seen in two July episodes of the We reality series has landed the 21-year-old in jail. Hart was arrested Monday for possibly violating her probation -- the result of a fight she got into in high school -- while appearing on the series. In the episode, Hart burns her bridesmaid's shoes, screams at her mother-in-law about getting her wedding dress dirty and gets into a car chase on her wedding day. Apparently, the terms of her probation were that she wasn't allowed to display any threatening behavior. But, Hart, who lives in Racine, Wisc., told local Fox station WITI-TV that her aggressive actions were merely an act and that she was just "playing the game" for the reality show, which had offered to pay for her wedding if she lived up to the hissy-fit-throwing bridezilla stereotype for cameras. "I thought it would be a nice opportunity for me to show my acting skills, 'cause I've always wanted to be an actress and [it was] also a way for my family to get some income to help me pay for my wedding," Hart said on Sunday. "Don't believe everything you see on reality TV. Reality TV does not always mean it's real." Hart also said that she asked her probation officer for permission to appear on the show and that she now regrets her decision. Hart's hearing, to see if she should be released from jail, is scheduled for today at the Racine County Courthouse.

What Gets a Groom Involved?

Recently, The New York Times ran an article called "A Wedding Plan for Men." In it, author Vincent M. Mallozzi attempts to explain the modern groom's increased involvement in wedding planning this way: "...Couples are now getting married later in life and as a result, they are paying for their own weddings.... So a groom making this kind of investment is more likely to take a more serious interest in the decision-making process, and that has greatly contributed to the trend."

Is this gender stereotyping? Why do we assume a guy's interest in wedding decisions is necessarily financial, while the bride's interest must be largely emotional? I have probably been guilty of making this assumption myself. But when I read this, I thought, Come on! I'm sure there are plenty of grooms out there who are interested in the look of the invitations and the flowers because they care, not just because they're paying! And why is the paper reporting on this as though it is a new trend? Grooms have been involved (some of them almost to the exclusion of their fiancees) for quite some time now.

Do you think this writer's theory about "the modern groom" is accurate, or is your fiance genuinely interested in the wedding plans, not for any financial reasons?—Antonia van der Meer, editor-in-chief, Modern Bride

Table Number Templates

Posted By niecylunn ~ Jun 26, 2009 8:41PM
So the wedding is in less than 24 hours, and the venue doesn't provide table numbers. So, I googled "table number templates" and found these adorable templates from Martha Stewart. I had to share. It doesn't get any easier than this!

Do-It-Yourself Wedding Fan Programs

Posted By niecylunn ~ Jun 8, 2009 11:44AM
I love fan programs, but I do not like the prices charged for them on some online stores. So, here are a few easy and simple steps to creating your fan wedding programs. These are great for outdoor weddings.

1. Buy a nice cardstock paper that won't easily bend once glued to the stick. I love the cardstock sold at most Michaels stores made by The Paper Company.

2. Test a few print outs of your program on the paper before you buy in bulk. You want to make sure it doesn't bleed, fade or smudge.

*Note that toner cartridge printers tend to smudge a lot on a variety of papers since the "ink" is basically like a powder.

3. After printing your program, fold in half.

4. With a hot glue gun, glue the stick in the middle of the half page.

5. Glue small beads around the entire edge of the program and press firmly. Clean off any excess glue.

6. Tie a ribbon around the stick at the base of the paper.

And here's what you get:
